Summer Hiatus

Wow. More than a month has passed and I've barely crafted, or blogged. I'm really not a fan of summer. I don't dislike it (much), but it's my least favorite season. Sure there are lots of fun things to do, and more events for seeing people I might not normally see, but yuck. Boo to bathing suits, and sunscreen, and tan lines. (not sure where that came from- I'm way past the days of laying in the sun or caring about tan lines) Mosquitos and bug spray. Humidity. Yes, beaches are great. Beaches with kids? I just don't enjoy it. So much to carry. And what kid doesn't have to poop when they get there? Worst of all? That pesky extra daylight and late bedtimes. I am with my kids from 8 AM until 10 PM. Every day. That means no TV for me, no movies. I miss TV and movies. No time for just me and the hubs. I miss having time in the evenings to just chill and unwind. [note: I realize that I'm lucky that the kids sleep in when going to bed late. and that I'm being needlessly whiny. yes, I'm lucky that I'm home all day and have that extra time, I know, I know. nobody else gets to do those things either, but I'm being rather selfish now, thank you.]
I'm not sure when the official end of summer is. That defintion changes over the years. Back to school, back to college. Labor day. Cool nights. I just don't know.

  1. A. and I just got to go on a date last night to dinner and Poison concert it was great. Time for just us is fun, and doesn't happen often enough. Lots of my peeps don't know how this feels because they all live around their parents so they are able to dump the kids off almost anytime they want for some free time. We on the other hand have to pay for a babysitter which makes anything we do cost an extra thirty or forty bucks, and we don't get any overnights or even late late nights.

  2. Summer is my least favorite season, too! (We were so meant to be friends!) Let's say summer officially ends July 31 and get on with fall! Woo-hoo!

  3. I think BB needs to start spending nights with his uncle, aunt, and cousins! Having parents or other willing/dependable family around is definitly something people take for granted. It takes a village, which sucks when you don't have one.
I think I was extra grouchy because I just got back from my parents, and I was actually able to leave the kids with them at bedtime, go to the neighbors, and drink and have a good time until dawn. Twice. I had a taste of freedom, and it wasn't cool being back in OH ;)

  4. And Amber, I'm treating August as pre-fall, and it's much more enjoyable!

  5. It's finally started to cool down here so fall must be on its way! Thank goodness because I am ready for the heat and the summer activities to be over. Summer is fun, but you can never really enjoy it because there are always too many things to do and not enough time to do the things you want. Oh, and fall means this baby is coming out soon and that I am definitely ready for! :)
